Guitar Hero or Guitar Zero??

I know it's been a minute since I updated this thing!  So many happenings have been occurring that it's getting so hard to keep track.  I attempted to update this thing about a month ago, just so that I have some recollection of what's been going on, but once again, these happenings overtook my life and time was never found.  Anyhow, quick update...

Ricky and I had our "Homies Engagement Party" on Nov. 2, 2007 at The Villa, a really nice, elegant, and PRIVATE banquet hall in Westminster.  This was a HUGE success, with a turn-out of over 150 people.  And all these people are just our FRIENDS!  Imagine how crazy the wedding's going to be.  We had AnThai from 71Raw on the turntables all night, with a couple of guest appearances by ThaiFoon, the greatest Vietnamese American rapper of all time, and even Ricky and I performed.  Everyone loved our rendition of "Stand By Me/Beautiful Girls", compliments to Nguyen Thang for putting that piece together.  It was awesome.  And as expected, both me and Ricky got wasted.  So much so that I can't believe I attempted to drive home!  Thank goodness Mama Cidney was there to take the keys away from me.  That only really happens when I'm beyond drunk.

The Dam Hoi (traditional engagement party) was held on Nov. 18, 2007 at my folks' house.  That event was beautiful and so much more than what I had anticipated.  It was seriously a mini-wedding.  We had to decorate, find catering, set up entertainment, buy flowers and centerpieces, order the cake, rent dresses, the whole works... But my favorite part of the whole event was probably the tea ceremony, when I walked down the stairs to meet Ricky and he put the ring on my finger.  It was awesome and very sweet.  The pictures turned out awesome too!!  I can't wait to get the high-res dvd so that we can make our own Dam Hoi album.

The snowboarding season is here!!!!!  FINALLY!!  So this being the second season back since tearing my knee, I'm not as nervous as last season.  But I'm way more excited now that we have more people in the group who are down to board.  And, I'm not the only girl anymore who loves to ride the mountain.  yay!!  So this weekend, I broke out my gear in anticipation for an awesome season.

Lastly, Ricky and I have developed a new addiction.  Guitar Hero.  I played the game for the first time on Thanksgiving Day at my cousin's house and after that, I was determined to get the game.  So on Black Friday, Ricky and I cruised over to Fry's where we stood in line for an hour an half to PAY for the damn game.  But it was well worth it... So can you guess who the Guitar Hero and the Guitar Zero is?  hahaha... here's a hint, I'm better than Ricky... haha!

what i did this week...

This week was my first week of being a working girl again… and I’m loving it!!  As of Monday, the 15th, I became an official accountant at BrightNow! Dental, a half billion dollar company.  It’s been great so far.  I’m practically doing what I already know, but on a way bigger scale so it’s the familiar with challenge.  I’m still getting used to waking up earlier and dealing with traffic to and from work everyday.  That’s the only crappy part about working.  But hey… I’m gonna be rich again, so yay for me!!!  But not really because I just realized how expensive the wedding’s gonna be.  But hey, I only get married once and since I’m the ONLY girl and the oldest child in my family, we’re going all out.

So Ricky and I decided that the traditional engagement party would just not be enough for us since we wouldn’t be able to invite all our friends.  With that in mind, we decided to throw our own engagement party where ALL of our friends and co-workers can come out and just party-on, Ricky and Julie style.  We got our good friend Anthai to DJ for us, we booked this fancy, PRIVATE banquet hall close by, and invited all of our friends…ALL 150 of them!  And the best part?  Drinking and dancing all night, baby… oh, oh… And I get to sing!  How great is that?!

I just started reading this book by bell hooks called “All About Love” given to me from DonL.  I can’t believe I never picked up one of her books before!!  I absolutely LOVE her writing… it’s not overly flowery, very simple and concise, yet so rich of thought and meaning.  As the title tells, it’s her take on the mystical thought of love and her redefining of the notion.  And it makes COMPLETE sense.  People really should read this book.  I think it would really do society some real good.

Last week, I finally went and got my eyebrows and eyeliner tattooed, after months of talking about getting it done.  My mom had to drive all the way down to OC to drag my ass out to the place.  Surprisingly, it was a pretty legit place, inside a doctor’s office.  I guess the lady that does the tattooing is the wife of the doctor, so it was pretty sanitary and clean in the office.  The eyebrows didn’t hurt at all.  It was just like getting my tattoos on my back and I nearly fell asleep.  Tattoos can be so relaxing and addictive.  But oh, when it came to my eyeliner, I seriously felt the worse pain in the world.  My eyes were so swollen and black and blue that it looked like I had just gotten into a fist fight.  Not so surprisingly, no one thought that Ricky had hit me… hahaha… But man do I love the tattoos.  I never have to draw my eyebrows or eyeliner ever again.  I wake up in the morning, and I’m pretty much ready to go.

Today, me and Ricky are going to shop for a gown and a tux.  I’m so excited.

5 long months...

After 5 long months of being unemployed and broke... I FINALLY FOUND A NEW JOB!!!  I'm so excited!  I finally got the call early this morning for a great job offer!  And I naturally accepted.  Yay... time to celebrate!!  Geez, this summer has been a crazy summer.  Days of doing absolutely nothing, lounging around in the mornings looking for projects around the house to do.  One surprising thing was that I barely watched any tv.  I should have used that time to catch up on my favorite tv shows like grey's anatomy, ugly betty, heroes, lost, house.  But i didn't.  Oh wells, I guess I'll never catch up now.
So after 5 months of disappointing interviews, frustrating moments of low cash flow, and not being able to buy new useless things, everything just came together this past week... so updates:

-Ricky and I booked a fantastic banquet hall to host our official Engagement Announcement party.  It's a huge and private hall, with a great patio area and tons of space for drinking and dancing.  A good friend of ours also agreed to DJ, so it'll be a night of drunken fun.
-My famous homie, tHAi fOOn is finally winding down his tour days and announced that he will be recording his first album soon, release date to be some time next February.  And guess who he asked to sing on one of his tracks... me!!!!  So I finally get to record something real and official on a produced CD.  Awesomeness!
-Jimmy and I decided to throw a halloween party this year at the Hot Spot.  Now, shopping for costumes for me and Ricky... naturally, Ricky keeps coming up with crazy ideas:  Batman and Robin (I claim Batman, he can be Robin), Mario and Luigi (cute, but i prefer being Princess), Jay-Z and Beyonce (he's got Jay-Z's voice down, but I don't think I can pull off being a big-bootie girl... that and I am asian), and the best idea so far... Puff Daddy and Mase from the Mo' Money Mo' Problems video.  My responses?  VETO!!
-Danny, Sach, Ricky, and I got to see Wicked this past weekend.  I absolutely freakin loved that musical.  I wanna go see it again!!
-Next big thing to prepare for is the traditional engagement party that my parents are hosting at their house in Corona.  We have to clean next weekend... eh... not fun, but exciting to see that things are progressing.  The wedding will be here before we know it...

Lastly, before I start working at the new place, they're making me take a drug test... today.  Am i worried?  just a tad bit.  But I'm a good girl... should be no problems, right?

1 block of stress off my back, 10,000 more to go...

For the first time ever, I decided to file for an extension for David's taxes earlier this year.  Every year, I do everyone's taxes in the beginning of the year.  But with David's self-employment status, I decided that I didn't want to deal with it.  The extension gave me up until Oct. 15 to file, and knowing me, I was going to postpone it until the very last minute.  But, after constant nagging from my parents, I finally buckled down yesterday, spent a whopping 3 hours punching numbers, and finally finished his taxes.  Yay!  Now that I'm done with his taxes, this weird weight suddenly lifted from my shoulders... only to make the weight of other things feel heavier.

The wedding is coming up in less than 8 months and this gigantic sense of urgency just completely sprang itself on me.  Not working this entire summer taught me a really good lesson.  No work = no money = no going out = no events planned = stalling of wedding planning.  My EED checks have been good enough to pay the necessary bills... but my planning of all kinds of things have stopped dead in its tracks.  Like, we were supposed to have had a house boating trip some time this summer, go to a football game as a group some time this season, and have our annual camping trip some time in August.  Geez, the event-planner runs out of money and all plans shatter to the ground.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm THAT important to the group, but this summer really showed me what integrate role I do play in this group.  Lesson learned... once I get just an inkling that I'd be out of job, I have to get on the ball right away and find a new one.  No more taking vacations which may turn into a whole season of jobless laziness lounging.

I scored a second interview for another job that I interviewed for last Monday, this time with the CFO of the company.  Evidently, the controller liked me a lot and it turns out that I was the only candidate that was called back.  My interview's next Wednesday.  By the looks of things, I'm hoping to start work again on the following Monday... work = money = a lot of people happy again!!
